Tour Description
The Roluos group consists of three temples known as Bakong, Lolei, and Preah Ko. These temples are some of the earliest examples of ancient Khmer architecture. Bakong temple was built in the 9th century AD and was the official state temple inside the capital city of Hariharalaya. Lolei temple was also built in the 9th century and is a Hindu temple. It was built in 893 AD by Yasovarman I who dedicated the temple to Shiva. Preah Ko temple was built in 879 AD and was also dedicated to the Hindu god, Shiva.
Option 1 – Kampong Phluk
At Kampong Phluk you’ll see one of the floating villages on the Tonle Sap lake. You’ll see high houses sitting on top of tall stilts in the dry season which then float nearly on top of the water in the wet season. You can take a boat ride through the flooded forest and see how the villagers live their everyday lives on top of the water.
Option 2 – Kampong Khleang
Kampong Khleang is located further out and is around 50km from Siem Reap town. It’s more remote and less touristy than Kampong Phluk but visitors will be awe of the 10m high houses which sit on stilts. If you go in the rainy season, you’ll see how the locals have adapted to life on the water.
